Abstract

|
Actinomycosis of the appendix revealed the following conclusion. During the period of 1 year- from September 1973 to October 1974, we experienced 4 cases of primary appendiceal actino mycosis in 123 cases of appendectomy and I case of secondary abdominal wall actinomycosis.
Actinomycosis may be defined as a chronic suppurative, fibrous and granulomatous lesion.
"Sulfur granules" are characteristically found in the purulent discharge of perforated appen-dicitis and abdominal wall abscess.
Appendectomy, wide surgical excision and drainage were performed. Postoperative massive penicillin therapy was effective.
